Oh Cheap Chatter (why don’t i seem like man to you?)

Just a follow-up to my potential quasi-job search.

Yesterday morning I had the first of my second round of interviews.   ‘Say what?’ you say?   Yes, I actually have a second second round coming up on Thursday.

I was called in for one possibility and as has happened in the past, it has morphed into two potential positions.  In theory, I want one more than the other.  Isn’t that the way it’s supposed to happen?   You have to have a preference.  It’s like kids – no matter what parents say – they always like one more than another one.

That means nothing to the people on the other side of the desk necessarily.  As the interviewee,  it is up to me to express my desires and where I think I would be a better fit.  Try to sell myself, all the while, balancing the less desirable job – which isn’t really bad at all.  I mean, even the second choice could still be an amazing opportunity – as long as I don’t alienate them.

The good thing is – both areas know I’m up for both jobs.  Maybe that will cancel me out of both.  However, maybe it puts me in a nice bargaining place.  I’m not really good at that though.  Job (or salary or benefit) negotiations has never been my strong suit.  I tend to be take what is offered if I like the job.

Of course, a third option is they fight to the death over me.    That’d be cool.
